1. What is Saint Nicholas Mayfield?

Saint Nicholas Mayfield is a quiet, safe, secure two storey 40 bedroom student residential. We provide accomodation for students, staff, and accredited visitors from TAFE and University all year round. One or more of the residents acts as assistant manager for minor problems. A 24 hour urgent response mobile number is supplied to all residents.

2. Where is Saint Nicholas Mayfield Located?

We are located on the corner of Pitt Street and Barber Street Mayfield on the hill above Mayfield shopping centre.   Street address is Saint Nicholas Mayfield, 26 Barber Street Mayfield 2304. The shopping centre with large supermarket and numerous take-away food shops, clubs and hotels is located 300 metres away. Buses to town, the beaches, TAFE, University and railway stop frequently along the main street. University is 10 minutes by bus. Newcastle TAFE is 10 minutes walk or a few minutes by bus.

3. What Does Saint Nicholas Mayfield Offer?

Single rooms have a single bed, 135 litre fridge, student desk and chair, wardrobe, individual telephone and high speed internet connection.

There are also some double rooms at Saint Nicholas Mayfield.

Shared facilities include:

  • Analogue TV Lounge
  • Satellite TV lounge
  • 8 shower/toilet rooms
  • 2 kitchens
  • Laundry (automatic washers and pay dryer)
  • Large common dining area
  • Rear courtyard, with clothes lines and aviary

All areas have hard-wired smoke/fire detectors, centrally alarmed fire sprinklers, smoke prevention doors, fire extinguishers & hose reels. They exceed Board of Fire Commissioners requirements, State Government requirements, Local Government requirements, Building Code of Australia requirements, and they exceed Australian Standards.

4. How Much Does it Cost?

Most rooms are singles at AU$90 per week for long-term residents. Minimum payment is for four weeks, which is non-refundable. A key deposit of $180 is also needed to move in. The key deposit is refunded when keys are returned. $540 payment at time of entry is needed to move in.

If rooms are available, temporary accommodation is offered at $60 per night for single room, with a key deposit of $180. Payment must be made at time of entry.

There are a few double rooms available at varying prices.

There is no charge for washing machines but the clothes dryer costs about $2 per half load.
Residents credit their individual phone account in our office on Thursday evenings. Phone accounts are automatically deducted each time a call is made. There are no fees or charges for activating the telephone. Emergency and 1800 numbers are available at no cost. Local calls are untimed and cost 25 cents. All other calls are at the proportional rate charged by Telstra.

Hyper speed internet (8500kB/sec download speed) is available at 3 cents per megabyte downloaded, with substantial discounts for quantity downloaded. There are no fees or charges for activating our hyper speed internet. Your computer just needs an ethernet adapter, tcp/ip protocol compatibility, and a web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc). Usage is billed each fortnight.

There are no other fees or charges.
